Mohun Bagan Super Giant has acquired Scottish defender Tom Aldred from Australia’s Brisbane Roar. Last season, Aldred captained the Brisbane Roar in the A-League and played 25 matches as a center-back, completing each match from start to finish. In the upcoming season, he will bolster Mohun Bagan’s defense in the Indian Super League, and he might also wear the captain’s armband. The club announced his signing on Tuesday.

Regarding Aldred’s inclusion, new coach Jose Molina told the club media, “Having an experienced defender like Tom Aldred will significantly strengthen our defense. His physical presence, capability, and aggressive approach in defense are commendable. He dominates aerial duels and has excellent technique in build-up play.”

Aldred expressed his happiness about joining the Indian league champions, saying, “I am honored to have the opportunity to wear the green and maroon jersey. I am eagerly waiting to step onto the field for Mohun Bagan. After playing in England, Scotland, and Australia, my football journey now brings me to India. I have the chance to represent a fantastic club in the ISL and the AFC Champions League and contribute to their success.”

Proud of Mohun Bagan’s history and heritage, Aldred added, “I know about Mohun Bagan’s remarkable history. I have observed their recent successes from afar. I will give my best every day for Mohun Bagan. My goal is to work hard and contribute to the club’s success, bringing smiles to the faces of supporters and teammates. I can’t wait to meet everyone in Kolkata soon.”

Recently, Mohun Bagan SG bid farewell to two defenders, Brendan Hamill from Australia and Hector Yuste from Spain, along with experienced midfielder Jonny Koukou. The departures of Yuste and Hamill left significant gaps in the green and maroon defense, raising questions about how the club would fill these voids. The news of Aldred’s arrival should reassure the supporters, although they are still looking forward to the addition of two more foreign players.
