Mohun Bagan was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Bashundhara Kings in a dramatic AFC Cup group-stage clash. Despite taking the lead twice, the Mariners couldn’t secure the win, with goals from Dimitri Petratos and Ashique Rai being cancelled out by Dorientino and Robson for the opposition.
The first half was controversial, as Liston Colaco’s seemingly legitimate goal was disallowed by the referee, leaving Mohun Bagan frustrated. Bashundhara Kings came out firing in the second half, striking the post twice and piling relentless pressure on the Mariners’ defense.
Late in the match, Anwar Ali suffered a concerning ankle injury, leaving him hobbling off the field. He was eventually stretchered to the dugout, raising serious concerns for head coach Juan Ferrando.
While Mohun Bagan showed flashes of brilliance in attack, defensive lapses allowed Bashundhara to capitalize and level the scoreline. The draw leaves Ferrando with plenty to ponder, particularly with the Mariners needing consistent results to progress further in the tournament. Anwar Ali’s fitness will also be a significant concern as Mohun Bagan prepares for their next match.
