Mohun Bagan’s struggles in the Kolkata League hit a new low with a 2-1 defeat to Kalighat Sports Lovers Association at the Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay Stadium in Barrackpore. Despite hopes of renewed energy following their derby victory in Lucknow, Deggie Cardozo’s side failed to deliver once again.

The Mariners, already out of contention for the Super Six, began the game poorly. In the 35th minute, Kalighat’s Horam capitalized on a free kick by Abhay, sending the ball into the net unmarked, exposing Mohun Bagan’s defensive frailties. Though the Green and Maroons equalized early in the second half via a penalty converted by Adil Abdullah after Anson Singh was fouled inside the box, their momentum fizzled out.

Kalighat sealed the match in the 70th minute with a thunderous strike from Saikat, leaving Mohun Bagan stunned. The team’s inconsistent performances in the league, marked by big wins and unexpected losses, have frustrated fans.
This defeat marks yet another chapter in Mohun Bagan’s disappointing Kolkata League journey, leaving supporters questioning the team’s form and focus ahead of more critical fixtures.
