In the ongoing battle for supremacy in the Indian Super League (ISL), Kolkata’s top contenders have already embarked on their journey into the final stretch of three remaining matches. Mohun Bagan, however, stumbled in their initial steps in this phase, suffering a setback against Chennai FC at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

As a result, hopes of clinching the league shield this season have taken a hit for the Green and Maroons. Coach Antonio Lopez Habas was not on the sidelines due to health concerns, casting doubts over his immediate return to action. Although a potential return seems likely after recuperation, the word “likely” remains crucial, given his absence from recent practice sessions as advised by medical professionals. Meanwhile, Sahal Abdul Samad remains sidelined despite slow progress in his recovery, as Super Giants Thinktank adopts a cautious approach to his return.

The crucial fixture against Punjab FC awaits Mohun Bagan on Saturday, a match pivotal in their pursuit of league shield glory. Despite accumulating 39 points from 20 matches, placing them third on the table, a loss would likely derail their aspirations. Amid uncertainties, coach Juan Ferrando remains optimistic about clinching the league shield, echoing confidence ahead of their upcoming clash. Additionally, Punjab FC has announced the closure of their doors for their matches against Bengaluru FC on April 6 and 10 due to hosting games in an empty stadium, managing unforeseen circumstances.
