Mohun Bagan achieved their first ISL win of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over North-East United at the Salt Lake Stadium. Trailing twice, the Mariners showcased remarkable resilience, with Jason Cummings scoring the decisive goal in the 88th minute.
The match held special significance for Mohun Bagan, who had previously lost the Durand Cup final to North-East United despite leading by two goals. North-East struck early through Bemamer in the 5th minute, but Mohun Bagan’s Dipendu Biswas equalized with a brilliant header off Dimitri Petratos’ free kick. North-East regained the lead in the 24th minute through Azari’s counterattack, leaving Bagan trailing 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Bagan captain Subhasish Bose equalized in the 61st minute, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error. The momentum shifted entirely, and Cummings, coming off the bench, sealed the win with a late strike.
With three crucial points, Mohun Bagan now stands fourth in the league table, marking a sweet revenge against their Durand Cup rivals.
