Mohun Bagan Advances to Durand Semifinals in a Thriller

Mohun Bagan edged past Punjab FC in a penalty shootout to secure a spot in the Durand Cup semifinals. The match, held at JRD Tata Sports Complex, ended 3-3 in regulation time before the Mariners triumphed 6-5 in the shootout, thanks to goalkeeper Vishal Kaith’s heroics.

Punjab FC took an early lead through Luka Majcen’s penalty, but Suhel Bhat levelled the score for Mohun Bagan just before halftime. The second half saw Punjab regain the lead twice through goals from Felipe Vidal and Alberto, only for Manvir Singh and Jason Cummings to equalize for the Mariners.

The penalty shootout showcased incredible tension, with Kaith saving two crucial attempts to secure the win. Key contributions from Dimitri Petratos, Greg Stewart, and Liston Colaco also highlighted the team’s depth and resilience.

Mohun Bagan now shifts focus to their semifinal clash against Bengaluru FC, aiming to defend their Durand Cup title.
