Mohammedan Sporting secured their first point in the ISL after a thrilling 1-1 draw with FC Goa at Kishore Bharati Stadium. However, the late equalizer conceded once again highlighted the challenges faced by the I-League champions in adapting to top-flight football.
Alexis Gomez put Mohammedan ahead in the 64th minute, converting a penalty after he was fouled in the box. Before that, Mohammedan had controlled the game’s tempo, with their forwards consistently testing Goa’s defense. Franca, in particular, looked threatening, coming close to doubling the lead in the 72nd minute, but his header missed the target.
FC Goa struck back in the 94th minute when Armando Sadiku connected with a cross to head home the equalizer. The Mohammedan defense, which had held firm for most of the game, was left stunned as the visitors salvaged a point.
Coach Andrey Chernyshov expressed mixed emotions after the game, praising his team’s fighting spirit but emphasizing the need to finish matches strongly. Mohammedan will look to build on this performance as they continue their maiden ISL campaign.
