India Go Down 2-0 to Australia in AFC Asian Cup Opener

India suffered a 2-0 defeat against Australia in their opening match of the AFC Asian Cup. Interestingly, this very stadium in Qatar witnessed World Champions Argentina beat Australia 2-1 just about a year ago.

This time, India faced the same opposition on the same turf—only in Asia’s premier football tournament—and came up short against the side ranked 25th in the world, while India currently stands at 102.

Despite the result, Sandesh Jhingan and Rahul Bheke put in solid performances and were standout figures for India throughout the match.
