In a significant step toward improving the standard of refereeing, the Indian Football Association (IFA) is set to introduce a new technology named ART (Advanced Refereeing Technology), developed in collaboration with Jadavpur University. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the IFA office on Wednesday.

After four months of dedicated research by professors and students of Jadavpur University, ART has been designed to accurately determine whether the ball has crossed the goal line. IFA Secretary Anirban Dutta stated that the technology will be tested during the Super Six stage of the Premier Division in the Calcutta Football League.

If successful, ART could be extended in the future to assist with offside decisions, penalties, and other critical match situations. Dutta also highlighted that the system is cost-effective and marks the first instance of such technology being used in Indian football.

This is also Jadavpur University’s first research initiative related to football. Present at the press conference were IFA President Ajit Bandyopadhyay, Secretary Anirban Dutta, Vice Presidents Saurav Pal and Swaroop Biswas, Joint Secretaries Mohammad Jamal and Sudeshna Mukherjee, Jadavpur University Vice Chancellor Bhaskar Gupta, Pro Vice Chancellor Amitava Dutta, and faculty members Pranabesh Mondal, Rajib Bandyopadhyay, and Ashish Pal.
