Historic Kolkata Derby Set to Take Place in Lucknow After 69 Years

The iconic Kolkata Derby is set to be held in Lucknow on September 2, marking the first time Mohun Bagan and East Bengal will clash in Uttar Pradesh. The KD Singh Babu Stadium will host the much-anticipated match, bringing together India’s most historic football rivalry.
This initiative, spearheaded by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Uttar Pradesh government, aims to promote football in the state. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey collaborated with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to organize the event, emphasizing the sport’s development in the region. Renovations to the stadium were completed in record time to ensure world-class facilities for the game.
Mohun Bagan’s coach Deggie Cardozo praised the initiative, saying, “This match will inspire young talents in Uttar Pradesh.” Similarly, East Bengal’s coach Bino George highlighted the importance of grassroots development, hoping to see new players emerge from the region.
