East Bengal’s Defensive Woes Continue Despite Anwar’s Debut

Even the debut of Anwar Ali couldn’t shore up East Bengal’s defense as they suffered a 2-1 away loss to Kerala Blasters. Despite taking an early lead, Carles Cuadrat’s men remain pointless in the ongoing ISL after two matches.

Fielding their best XI, East Bengal included ex-Blasters players Jeakson Singh and Dimitrios Diamantakos alongside new signings Madiha Talal and Mark Zothanpuia. However, the star-studded lineup failed to deliver, conceding defeat to Kerala after falling to Bengaluru earlier.

The match saw East Bengal’s defense under relentless pressure from the outset. A stunning strike from Jimenez rattled the bar, while the roaring Kochi crowd amplified the challenge for the visitors. Both teams missed chances in the first half, leaving the scoreline goalless.

In the second half, East Bengal seemed more cohesive, with Jeakson leading the charge. Bishnu scored in the 59th minute off Dimitrios’ assist, but Kerala equalized within four minutes through Sadaoui. Peprah sealed the victory for Kerala in the 88th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error by Anwar.

Two consecutive defeats place East Bengal at the bottom of the table, highlighting their defensive frailties.
