A new season brought new hope for East Bengal, but the ghosts of past campaigns returned as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Bengaluru FC at Kanteerava Stadium. Despite building a team with several star signings, coach Carles Cuadrat’s side failed to impress in their ISL opener.

The match’s lone goal came in the 25th minute when young striker Vineeth slotted a grounder past Gill after a defensive lapse by Chunga. Before that, both teams struggled for rhythm, with a physical battle dominating the first half. Jeakson and Souvik came close for East Bengal, but their efforts were thwarted by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

East Bengal introduced new signings like Madi Talal and Clayton Silva in the second half, but their attack lacked sharpness. Greek striker Diamantakos was subbed off after failing to make an impact, and East Bengal’s final push was derailed when Chunga received a second yellow card.

The result leaves fans frustrated, as the team’s quest for ISL glory starts with yet another disappointing performance.
