Amidst a string of eight consecutive losses, East Bengal found a lifeline with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bhutan’s Paro FC in the AFC Challenge League opener. The Red and Gold brigade, battling thin air and freezing conditions in Thimphu, showcased resilience to salvage their first point in weeks.
Madiha Talal gave East Bengal an early lead, but their advantage was short-lived as William Opoku converted a penalty for Paro FC. Evans Asante’s strike then put the hosts ahead before halftime. Despite dominating possession, East Bengal’s chances repeatedly went begging.
Dimitri Diamantakos equalized in the 69th minute with a clinical finish off Nand Kumar’s assist, but the Kolkata giants failed to capitalize on further opportunities. While far from a win, this point offers Oscar Bruzon’s side some much-needed breathing room as they strive for redemption.
