Carles Cuadrat was present in the East Bengal box as the team began their CFL campaign with a resounding 7-1 victory over Tollygunge Agragami at Barrackpore Stadium. The impressive performance by Jesin and Sayan brought smiles to the faces of their supporters. To maintain that form, coach Bino George included a mix of young players along with Sarthak Golui in the starting lineup for their home match. Sayan was not in the initial lineup. However, controlling possession and scoring goals are different things. Despite repeated attempts to penetrate through both wings, Jesin and the team could not find success. Instead, in the 34th minute, East Bengal conceded a surprise goal. Amit Ekka’s long-range shot deflected off East Bengal defender Sarthak Golui, leaving goalkeeper Aditya Patra with no chance to save.
In the second half, coach Bino George brought on Sayan, which paid off immediately. In the 47th minute, Nasib’s long-range shot hit the bar and rebounded. Jesin, positioned like a true opportunistic striker, pounced on the loose ball and scored past the goalkeeper, repeating his heroics from the last match. Another goal came in the 65th minute. A cross from the right side was neatly slotted into the net at the second post by Sayan. Although Sarthak’s mistake in the 80th minute provided a chance for George’s team, they failed to capitalize on it. In the final moments of the match, Sayan scored again. Nasib played a pivotal role by dribbling past two defenders on the left and setting up Sayan, who finished clinically. East Bengal eventually won the match 3-1.
