From a streak of home defeats to a stunning turnaround in the AFC Challenge League, Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal scripted a remarkable comeback. The Red and Gold Brigade clinched a 3-2 victory against Nejmeh in Thimphu, Bhutan, propelling them to the knockout stage. Diomantakos was the hero of the night, netting twice to revive East Bengal’s form and spread Diwali cheer among their fans.

The equation was simple—only a win could secure East Bengal’s progress. Despite their dominance against Bashundhara in the previous match, a draw would have left their fate dependent on other group results. Early in the match, East Bengal capitalized on an own goal by Nejmeh to gain an edge. Diomantakos doubled the lead with a clinical finish from Naorem’s assist. However, Nejmeh struck back with two goals, exposing familiar vulnerabilities in East Bengal’s defense.

As tension mounted, a missed chance by Talal added to the drama before Diomantakos emerged as the savior in the 74th minute, sealing a hard-fought win. East Bengal’s journey to the quarterfinals marks a significant revival under Bruzon’s tactical brilliance.
