Diamond Harbour FC Starts League Campaign with a Thrilling Victory

Despite multiple CFL matches on Thursday, all eyes were on Abhishek Banerjee’s team, Diamond Harbour FC, and United Sports Club. Under the training of Kibu Vicuña, Diamond Harbour FC defeated the Purple Brigade 2-1. After a long hiatus, former East Bengal star Jobby Justin shone brightly in the Kolkata Maidan. During Alejandro Menéndez’s tenure, Jobby had become a hero for East Bengal supporters with his performances. Though he had seemed to disappear from the limelight, Jobby proved he is still a match-winner at the Bidhannagar Municipal Sports Complex. The Kerala striker single-handedly changed the game’s outcome with two goals in each half.

Diamond Harbour took the lead in the 28th minute through a goal from Jobby. Before the break, United Sports equalized thanks to a goal by Dinesh Dipesh Murmu from Bolagarh, Hooghly. In the 39th minute, Dipesh’s goal, a stunning shot after an instep and outstep, left everyone in awe—it was nothing short of a world-class goal. In the 71st minute of the second half, Jobby scored again to make it 2-1. This goal paved the way for Diamond Harbour’s victory. Despite their efforts, neither team could score further.
