In a tense evening at Salt Lake, Jason Cummings became the hero as Mohun Bagan secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC, reclaiming the top spot in the Indian Super League standings. The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when Cummings, introduced as a substitute, capitalized on a rebound with a brilliant left-footed strike.
Mohun Bagan dominated the opening exchanges, with midfielders Monbir and Liston Colaco creating consistent pressure on the wings. Despite their early control, a lack of precision in the final third kept the scoreline intact. Chennaiyin’s Irfan Edwada tested the Mohun Bagan defense with counter-attacks, but the Green and Maroons held firm.
Coach Juan Ferrando’s tactical substitutions, including the introduction of Sahal Abdul Samad and Greg Stewart, turned the tide. Stewart’s creativity caused havoc, and his shot that hit the post set up Cummings’ winning effort. Though Mohun Bagan’s captain Subhasish Bose will miss the next game due to suspension, their impressive form keeps them in prime contention for ISL glory.
