The Bengal women’s football team began their National Games journey with a goalless draw against Tamil Nadu at Goa’s Tilak Maidan on Friday evening. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities, the team failed to convert their chances, settling for an unsatisfactory result.
Coach Dipankar Biswas expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting their significant improvement against a strong Tamil Nadu side. “Last year, we lost to Tamil Nadu. They are a formidable team, but today the girls dominated the game. We should have scored at least four to five goals,” he remarked.
Bengal controlled the tempo of the match, consistently pushing Tamil Nadu onto the back foot. However, poor finishing in the final third prevented them from capitalizing on their dominance. The team’s defense held firm, ensuring they secured at least a point from the encounter.
Bengal’s next challenge is against Manipur on October 29. With lessons learned from this game, the team will aim to sharpen their attack and register their first win in the tournament.
