The Bengal women’s football team stormed into the semifinals of the National Games with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Jharkhand on Tuesday morning. Despite trailing by a goal early on, the team displayed remarkable resilience to overturn the deficit and secure a place in the final four.
Jharkhand took the lead in the first half, but Bengal’s Rimpa Halder equalized with a clinical finish. Moumita Murmu then put Bengal ahead with a well-placed strike, only for Jharkhand to equalize shortly after. In the dying minutes, Devnita Roy emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal to seal Bengal’s triumph.
Coach Dipankar Biswas lauded the team’s performance, stating, “Playing in Goa’s intense heat and against a strong opponent like Jharkhand was no easy task. The girls showcased the true spirit of Bengal football by bouncing back from an early setback. This win reaffirms our dominance.”
Looking ahead to the semifinals on Friday, November 3, where Bengal will face either Haryana or Odisha, Biswas expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure a spot in the final. Bengal’s dream run continues as they aim for ultimate glory in the tournament.
